Miss Samantha Tross
Samantha a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Treatment of conditions of the hip and knee and has been in the post for 11 years.. She is one of only 5% of female Orthopaedic Consultant surgeons and the first of Afro-Caribbean ancestry. Apart from her clinical work, she is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Medical Case Reports, Examiner for Medical School final examinations, Programme Director for Core Surgical trainees in her hospital, Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at the American University of the Caribbean and most importantly, a mentor to aspiring surgeons.
She is fortunate to have travelled to Nigeria to teach basic surgical skills as well as be part of an outreach medical programme in Guyana. A measure of her success is being asked by her Orthopaedic colleagues to operate on their relatives, most recently being asked by her colleague to perform his mother’s knee replacement.
The Image Award recognises and celebrates an individual who, through a considerable period of time in their chosen profession, has set a record of excellence. A record that has made a lasting, significant and positive contribution to the standing of African and Caribbean heritage in Britain.
