Our goal is to accelerate the progression of high potential Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) professionals from ‘the middle’ to the top of their organisations, enabling them to also become leading change-makers as role models beyond the workplace. The Talent Accelerator is the ambitious embodiment of learnings and recommendations from The Middle research report published by the BBBAwards in 2017.
FOUNDED IN RESEARCH
The Talent Accelerator was developed in response to a recommendation from The Middle research report that was published by the BBBAwards in 2017 following a study involving over 30 top tier organisations. The research examined the reasons why BAME middle managers are underrepresented in senior executive roles within large businesses operating in the UK, and what can be done about it. One intervention that was recommended in the report was the establishment of a BAME-specific leadership and career development programme.
The programme would involve the active participation of key stakeholders in the workplace:
- Executive Sponsors
- HR and Diversity and Inclusion Experts
- Network Leads
The Talent Accelerator is the first initiative of its kind spanning all sectors in the UK. It brings BAME talent together to develop collectively and in a way that no in-house programme can. The curriculum focuses on the experience of BAME professionals. It blends development, experiential learning and inspiration to deliver a game-changing, leadership and career development programme. By involving other key stakeholders in each company, the programme is designed to facilitate culture change by engaging the organisational ecosystem.
WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR?
The target audience for the BAME Talent Accelerator are mid-career BAME professionals with 5 to 7 years of full-time experience (or equivalent). Candidates will need to have either managerial responsibility, lead the coordination of one, or more, key workstream(s) or consistently liaise and/or advise clients regularly.
In June 2018, we launched the Talent Accelerator and celebrated our Pioneer Class of 2018. Hosted by Morgan Stanley and Powered by Virgin Money, the pilot programme had 27 participants from across sectors with the curriculum explored focusing on the experience of BAME professionals.
